OUR ORIGIN STORY

From Childhood Traditions to a Celebration of Inclusive Holiday Magic

My love for Christmas began in childhood, filled with memories of decorations that celebrated Black culture—a tradition sparked by a surprise find while shopping with my mother 30 years ago. As I grew older, my family lovingly called me the “CEO of Christmas,” a title that stuck as I built a family and started my own collection, fueled by pieces my mom passed down. This love for an inclusive holiday became the heart of Colour Me Christmas.

Creating Joyful Experiences That Celebrate Representation and Give Back

Colour Me Christmas officially began in 2021, hosting holiday photos with a Black Santa, and later expanding to The Black Santa Experience in 2022, where families could meet and take photos with a Black Santa. Seeing the joy and the importance of representation for families of color, mixed-race families, and adoptive families deeply moved me. In 2023, the event officially took on a new purpose; Brunch With Santa was born as our annual fundraiser for the CHEO Foundation.

Finding Hope and Purpose in the Midst of Adversity

Then, in December 2022, everything changed. Our newborn son fell gravely ill and spent his first Christmas in the ICU. During those long days at his bedside, I found myself reflecting on life, my passion for Christmas, and the need for diverse holiday representation. Struggling to find a Black Santa plush for my daughter sparked a mission that turned into Colour Me Christmas. Designing products and sourcing materials in the ICU became my way of finding light in a dark time. The early days of my business were born in the ICU, where I started designing products, sourcing materials, and even getting my logo designed. It was a way to channel my worry and fear into something positive and hopeful.

Turning Heartache into Hope and Spreading Joy Through Every Gift

Colour Me Christmas saved me, transforming worry into purpose and trauma into joy. Our story is one of resilience, hope, and the power of turning life's toughest moments into something beautiful. We are here to bring joy, celebrate diversity, and spread kindness, reminding us all that even in the hardest times, we can create something magical.
